In general

LuDUS is an informal meeting and learning place in the philosophy of a democratic school, for children from 4 years old.

After 3 years of existence, LuDUS has finally found a place and  opened its doors in September 2021 in Bereldange. We currently welcome homeschoolers (with an agreement from the MEN for home schooling) accompanied on a daily basis by a salaried coordinator and volunteer facilitators.

Children can develop their potential, gain confidence in themselves and their natural learning abilities and experience self-efficacy, cooperation and solidarity.

How “LuDUS” works :

Children choose freely, at their own pace and according to their own interests, what they learn and how (materials, workshops, outings…).

Facilitators support the learners in their activities.

All decisions are made in common, according to the principles of sociocracy.

Why “LuDUS”?

The term LuDUS refers to the Latin word ludus, which means “game”, “learning”, “school”, “training”, “sport” and “fun”.

It is also an acronym for “Leieruert fir Demokratie, Uechtsamkeet a Selbstbestëmmung” (“Learning Place for Democracy, Mindfulness and Self-Determination”), which differs from a traditional school in that it is a place where children want to learn and where learning is a personal process, not the result of teaching.

It is a place where learning is lively and fun.

Our Vision :

Driven by the vision of an educational concept that preserves the natural desire to learn, a group composed of teachers, a psychologist and parents was created in 2018 in order to enable today’s children, future conscious citizens, to freely explore the world, to (re)discover their potential, to be creative, to inspire each other and to learn to cooperate and create a more equitable and sustainable world.

For now, LuDUS is at the stage of a resource center where young homeschoolers meet to learn together in their own way.

Eventually, we would like to create a new educational alternative in Luxembourg, open to all, in the form of a free and democratic school.

Our resources :

LuDUS is currently financed according to the community-based economic model (gemeinschaftsbasiert, community – based), which allows children to participate independently of their family’s income.

This translates into a solidarity between the beneficiaries and the association carrying the project on the one hand, and between the beneficiaries themselves on the other.

In practice, each family chooses the amount of its contribution, so that the annual operating budget of LuDUS is covered.

LuDUS does not receive any state aid and is financed exclusively by the parents’ financial contributions and donations.
